Banana bread with dark chocolate and walnuts is a delightful and relatively easy-to-prepare variation of the classic banana bread recipe. Its main ingredients are ripe bananas, lending natural sweetness and moisture, dark chocolate, providing depth of flavour and a hint of bitterness, and crunchy walnuts, enhancing the texture.
Chlebek bananowy? Tak to prawda, ten wypiek bardziej przypomina ciasto niż tradycyjny chleb, zarówno pod względem tekstury, jak i smaku. Nazwa „chlebek bananowy” może być nieco myląca, ale jest powszechnie używana.
Why do I often bake banana bread?
Here, you'll find some reasons why I bake banana bread so frequently. I bet many of you will agree with these, or perhaps you have other reasons for loving banana-based baked goods? Do let me know, as I'm quite curious. 🙂
- Using ripe bananas: This is an excellent way to make use of bananas that are too ripe to eat but still perfect for baking. Rather than being thrown away, they find a new life in the oven.
- Nutritional values: Bananas are a rich source of potassium, fibre, and natural sugars, while walnuts offer healthy fats, protein, and antioxidants. Dark chocolate is rich in flavonoids, known for their beneficial effects on heart health.
- Long freshness: Banana bread maintains its freshness and flavour well for several days.
- Ease of preparation: The banana bread recipe is incredibly simple and doesn't require advanced culinary skills. It's one of the few baked goods where you don't even need to use a mixer. Why, you ask? A fork and spoon are more than sufficient.
I enjoy baking occasionally. In the summer, I typically opt for fruit cakes, which, of course, is hardly surprising. Winter baking, though, is a different affair, with carrot cake and pumpkin cake being the perfect choices for this time of year. I have my favourite and tested recipes that I'm always happy to recommend, as they're sure to delight!

Ingredients
- 3 bananas
- 250 g wheat flour
- 80 g sugar
- 70 g butter (melted)
- 50 g walnuts
- 50 g dark chocolate
- 2 tbsp cacao powder
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp baking soda
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Prepare a 10 x 20 cm baking tin and line it with baking paper.
- Chop the walnuts and dark chocolate and set aside.
- Place the peeled bananas in a large bowl and thoroughly mash them with a fork. Add the egg, melted butter, sugar, and mix until you achieve a uniform consistency. Then stir in the plain flour and baking soda. Mix everything until you get a fairly thick batter.
- Divide the prepared batter into two parts. To one part, add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, and to the other, mix in half of the chopped chocolate and nuts (25 g of each).
- Pour half of the light colour batter into the previously prepared tin, then spoon half of the darker mixture on top. Repeat this process. Finally, sprinkle the remaining chopped chocolate and nuts over the top.
- Bake the cake for about 40 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Enjoy!
