Is a cobbler the same as a crumble?
Although they might look similar, a cobbler is not the same as a crumble, even though the preparation and ingredients are quite similar. A cobbler has a slightly crisp top, but the texture is more biscuit-like – soft and tender. Make this dessert and you’ll see what I mean. Just don’t expect a crumble!
What fruits to choose?
You have full freedom here. Almost any type of summer fruit will work. Opt for peaches, nectarines, blueberries, raspberries, or plums. You can also use a mix of your favourite fruits.

Nectarine cobbler | Summer fruits topped with biscuit dough
Ingredients
- 6 nectarines
- 1 tbsp potato starch / corn starch
- 200 g spelt flour
- 80 g cold butter
- 60 g sugar
- 100 ml buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp sugar (for fruits + for sprinkling)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Wash the nectarines, remove the pits, and cut them into smaller pieces. Place the prepared nectarines in an ovenproof dish, sprinkle with cornstarch, and mix well.
- In a bowl, mix together the spelt flour, sugar, cold butter (cut into pieces), baking powder, vanilla extract, and buttermilk to form a thick dough.
- Spoon the prepared dough over the nectarines. There’s no need to cover the entire surface of the fruit completely. Sprinkle the tablespoon of sugar evenly over the top.
- Place the dessert in the preheated oven and bake for about 35-40 minutes. The top of the cobbler should be crispy, while the inside remains soft. The dough must be fully cooked. Enjoy!
