Smoked salmon spread

Hot-smoked salmon mixed with creamy cheese, a bit of red onion, sweet corn, and chives, on a slice of sourdough rye bread. Sounds good, doesn’t it? A balanced meal with protein and healthy fats, ready in literally 15 minutes? It's possible! Additionally, this spread is great to take to work, just need a slice of good bread or a wholegrain tortilla and you’re set. If you like salmon, you definitely should try this recipe, though I’m convinced it will become a regular on your menu.

You'll need hot-smoked salmon for this recipe. There are variations available in stores (e.g. smoked salmon with black pepper or herbs). I choose those without any additives, but I’ll leave the choice up to you.

The salmon spread is rich in protein, it’s also a good source of healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Additionally, you can add your favourite vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers, or iceberg lettuce. Regarding bread, I recommend choosing high-quality wholegrain bread, ideally homemade or from an artisan bakery. A whole-grain tortilla also works well.

Enjoy this smoked salmon spread as a speedy morning meal (simple to prepare the night before) or as a handy lunch to bring to the office.

Ingredients
  

  • 125 g smoked salmon (hot-smoked)
  • 100 g cream cheese
  • ¼ small red onion
  • 3 tbsp sweet corn
  • 1 tbsp chopped chives
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Place the smoked salmon in a bowl (ensuring it's free of bones and scales) and thoroughly mash it with a fork.
  • Add the cream cheese, corn, finely chopped onion, and chives. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve the prepared spread with good quality bread (e.g. sourdough rye) or wrap it in a wholegrain tortilla (you can briefly toast it in a dry pan). Enjoy!
